Relief the carrying shape of the support plate

Next  Previous  Chapter  Next

Purpose

The shape of the support plate that carries, that holds the workpiece is computed directly subtracted from the workpiece shape. At the same time, workpiece tolerances and planned manufacturing processes require that the support plates are not in direct contact with the workpiece, but have some relief locally.

This page covers the functionality to create these reliefs, these clearance situations between the workpiece and support plate. A simplified example will be used to show the effect.

Steps

1

Relief at process geometry contour

1.1

Filter

Open the Display filters and press the Show the process geometry button to display them. See that the workpiece has several contours assigned as process geometry. In this example for laser cutting operations. Then switch off the display and close the panel.

1.2

SettingsGlobal

Take a look at the support plates and see that they are in full contact with the workpiece, including where this manufacturing contour lies.

You may need to open the Global settings to change the Camera projection to Perspective, to be able to have a closer look 'inside' the fixture.

1.3

FB_FixtureDashboard

Open the Fixture parameter dashboard. To apply any upcoming modification immediately, set the Manual update to Automatic.

Then open the Relief container and activate the switch Process geometry relief. Have a look at the result.

1.4

FB_FixtureDashboard

The shape of the relief is computed from several parameters. Change the Circular notch radius to see the effect.

2

Corner relief

2.1

FB_FixtureDashboard

Activate the Corner relief detection. Each support plate is checked against the search parameters to find a corner that can be relieved. These corners are marked with a green relief symbol.

2.2

FB_FixtureDashboard

Enable the Create detected relief switch. All detected corner reliefs will be computed with the default parameters, when possible.

2.3

FB_SupportPlate_CornerRelief

Each corner relief always can be created or edited manually. On the green symbol, the Create/Edit corner relief command has to be started. A panel appears with the parameters of the relief. Press the Accept button to create or update the relief.

Information

Be aware that corner reliefs can only be created with the detection activated. They will be deleted automatically when the detection is switched off.

Also be aware that any modification made to a support plate, that require a full re-computation of that plate, will reset the corner relief to its initial shape and size.
